UCHAMF® Back Chamfering & Countersinking Tool
Machine hidden rear chamfers and countersinks through the existing pilot hole, without flipping the workpiece. Standard 82° / 90° inserts, special angles on request, on the coolant-actuated UBACK UX tool-holder.
UCHAMF / UX Series at a Glance
The UBACK range is organized into six series. Each series covers three pilot-hole sizes and defines the standard 82° / 90° UCHAMF countersink envelope, matching UX holders and RFC capacity.

How to Select the Correct UX Holder and UCHAMF Insert
Keep the process simple: pilot / holder first, then angle and ØD, then reach and series compatibility.
Start with Pilot Ød
Select the UX holder whose nominal / supported pilot range fits the through hole.
Example: Ød = 8.7 mm → Series B / UX2080Select Countersink Angle α
Choose 82° or 90° for a standard insert. Use a special-angle UC designation for application-specific requirements.
82° / 90° standard · special on requestDefine ØD & Reach
Enter the required countersink diameter ØD and pilot-hole length L. Verify the selected insert's ØDmax and holder RFC.
ØD ≤ ØDmax · L ≤ RFCVerify Series & Designation
Confirm the UC insert series matches the UX holder. For standard inserts, use the standard SKU; for special angles, use the generated UC designation.
UC-110-d080-B-PL-NCTChip-Formers, Coatings & Surface Treatments
The chip-former controls the cutting-edge geometry; the coating or surface treatment controls heat resistance, wear behavior, friction and material adhesion. Use this section to understand the codes used by the UCHAMF configurator and UC insert designation.

Typical rear edges UCHAMF chamfers and countersinks through the pilot hole.
Hidden Rear-Edge Chamfer
Chamfer the rear edge of a through hole from the front side of the workpiece without repositioning the component.
Back Countersinking
Create controlled rear countersinks through the existing pilot hole using the foldable UBACK mechanism.

Standard 82° / 90° Angles
Use standard UCHAMF insert SKUs for the two most common countersink angles and verify ØDmax by pilot-hole size.

Deep / Restricted Rear Access
Use RFC and LTB2 to verify that the holder reaches safely below the workpiece before the rear chamfering move.

Special-Angle Chamfers
For angles beyond the standard 82° and 90° range, configure an application-specific UCHAMF insert with the required angle, chip-former and coating.
How the UBACK mechanism works
Coolant, emulsion or air through the spindle (6 bar / 90 PSI minimum) opens the insert below the part and lets it fold back for a safe exit.
Plays muted when in view
Enter with the Insert Folded
Move through the pilot hole with the insert retracted to protect the bore and cutting edge.
Move Below the Workpiece
Use FL, RFC and LTB2 to reach a safe position below the rear surface before engagement.

Pressure deploys the insert. Approach the rear edge and machine the required 82°, 90° or special-angle chamfer / countersink.
Close & Retract
Move to the safe retract position, return the insert to transit state and exit through the pilot hole.
Understand the Holder and UCHAMF Insert Codes
The configurator creates the designation automatically. These diagrams are useful references for purchasing, engineering drawings and quotations.
Designation diagrams and ordering example

UX Tool-Holder Coding
Holder designation communicates pilot diameter, series, shank size, working height and overall length.

UCHAMF Insert Coding
UC designation identifies countersink angle, pilot / holder size, series, chip-former and coating.

UCHAMF Selection Questions
Can UCHAMF machine a rear chamfer without turning or flipping the workpiece?
Yes. UCHAMF passes through the existing pilot hole with the insert folded, deploys below the part and machines the hidden rear chamfer / countersink from the same setup.
Which UCHAMF angles are standard?
82° and 90° are standard UCHAMF countersink angles. The standard SKUs shown on this page use PL chip-former and NCT coating.
Can UCHAMF be supplied with a special countersink angle?
Yes. Angles other than 82° and 90° can be produced as application-specific / semi-standard UCHAMF inserts. Use the configurator to create the UC designation and send the application drawing for confirmation.
What is the maximum countersink diameter?
It depends on pilot-hole size and countersink angle. The standard range reaches up to Ø44 mm / 1.732″ for 82° inserts and Ø47 mm / 1.850″ for 90° inserts. Verify the exact ØDmax in the standard-insert or holder table.
How do I select the correct UCHAMF insert?
Start with pilot-hole diameter and select the matching UX holder / series. Then select 82°, 90° or a special angle, verify the requested ØD is within the insert limit and confirm pilot-hole length L ≤ RFC.
How is the insert opened and closed?
The UBACK UX holder uses coolant / emulsion or air pressure to actuate the insert. Minimum pressure is 6 bar / 90 PSI.
What is the difference between LTB2 and RFC?
RFC is the available relief / reach for the cutting operation and is used for the L ≤ RFC compatibility check. LTB2 is the UCHAMF holder positioning reference used for the rear-side cycle.
Do the UCHAMF insert and UX tool-holder need the same series?
Yes. Series B–G identifies the compatible UBACK geometry family. The UCHAMF insert series must match the UX holder series.
Are the tool-holder and insert sold together?
No. UX tool-holders and UCHAMF inserts are sold separately.
Where are programming and cutting recommendations?
Use the UBACK Technical Center ↗ for continuous / interrupted-cut programming, insert replacement, cooling configurations, machining parameters, coatings, chip-formers and detailed cutting recommendations.
