Frequently Asked Questions

Which UFIBER® tools are available?
UFIBER is a complete line of advanced ceramic finishing tools: Ceramic Fiber Brushes (Surface, Cross-Hole, End-Type and Point-Type), Radial Ceramic Fiber Discs and Ceramic Diamond Stones, supported by shanks, sleeves, Floating Dampers and the UF9999 Portable E-Pack.
Should I use a brush, a radial disc or a diamond stone?
Use a brush for flexible contact on edges, surfaces, cross-holes, ends and small features. Use a Radial Ceramic Fiber Disc for radial edge work in narrow grooves, slots, rib bottoms and side walls. Use a Ceramic Diamond Stone for ultra-hard materials such as tungsten carbide, hardened steel, ceramics and glass, and for EDM-scale removal, polishing and lapping.
Which grit sizes are available, and where do I start?
Brushes are available from #150 to #6000, Radial Discs from #150 to #1000 and Diamond Stones from #200 to #800 (diamond grain size). Choose the starting grit by burr condition, material and required finish, then optimize on the actual component.
What speed should I use for the Radial Ceramic Fiber Disc?
The maximum speed is 9,000 RPM; 6,000–8,000 RPM is recommended. Use the disc only with a suitable electric spindle or rotary tool — not with air tools — and wear eye and face protection.
What speed and contact force should I use for Ceramic Diamond Stones?
The maximum speed is 60,000 RPM, but up to 30,000 RPM is sufficient for most applications. Target a light contact force of about 1 N and keep it below 5 N. Perform a test run first and confirm there is no runout or vibration.
Can UFIBER be used on CNC machines and robotic systems?
Yes. UFIBER tools are suitable for automated finishing with CNC machines, machining centers and robotic systems, as well as controlled portable or hand-held applications when the correct tool and process are used.
Which UFIBER tools work with the UF9999 Portable E-Pack?
End-Type Brushes, Point-Type Brushes, Radial Ceramic Fiber Discs and Ceramic Diamond Stones are compatible with the UF9999 Portable E-Pack.
Where can I find machining recommendations and technical material?
See the UFIBER Technical Center for brushes and the Radial Disc page for disc machining data and an RPM calculator. Application examples are in the NOGA case studies and literature in the catalog section.
